MHJA JUNIORS
Hey Juniors! Did you know you can earn a varsity letter while showing your horse? Even if your school does not offer letters for equestrian athletes, there are multiple other ways to get recognized for all your hard work.

Students in grades 8-11 are eligible to register with the Minnesota High School Equestrian Association to become part of the MHSEA Equestrian Team! No tryouts required. The MHSEA has established JV-level and Varsity-level riding criteria for many disciplines, including Hunter/ Jumper! Online registration will be open April 1 to June 30, 2025.

Thank you to Patty Humphries for all of her hard work towards making this
possible! She has been a great advocate for our MHJA community.

The US Equestrian Interscholastic Athlete Program is another great way to earn a letter! This program is open to equestrian athletes in grades 5-12 who participate in any breed or discipline. To earn letters, athletes should be a subscriber or competing member of US Equestrian. You can complete your requirements in one of two ways:
-
A student wishing to log his or her time needs to record a minimum of 100 hours of riding/driving/training OR
-
A student wishing to use his or her competition experience must participate in at least three (3) competitions (both USEF licensed and/or non-USEF licensed) of any level or type to complete the requirements for that year.

Each year riders complete and document the requirements, they are honored with an Interscholastic Athlete Varsity pin and award letter. At the completion of your first year in the program, you will also be awarded a patch. The program year runs from June 1 - May 31. Students may even apply retroactively for previous years (if they are still in grades 5-12 and can provide verification for each year).
